When to use LinkTo

I search a documentation and especially examples when to use linkTo and whats best practices with it.

Can somegive me a hint ? Or links to ressources explaning this?

It basically allows you to reindex existing events in different ways
(and they read like they were originally written that way). This is
done without copying the entire body.
