When SSL TCP connection is usually used (Production setting) ?

Greetings,

I’m wondering in which cases you choose to go with a secured connection to EventStore in a production settings.
Looking up in the Internet ™, it seems most people host their EventStore server in a private network not exposed
to the world.

Is this a wrong assumption ?
